Technical surveillance counter measures

If you think you're being watched, find out for certain.

Police-trained TSCM specialists who locate hidden listening devices, cameras and GPS trackers in homes, vehicles, offices and mobile phones. Sophisticated, thorough and discreet. Australia-wide, 24 hours a day.

Before you call: if you suspect your phone or location might already be compromised, leave your mobile behind and call from elsewhere.

listening devices, hidden cameras and covert GPS trackers are imported into Australia every year.

1in3

home sweeps for a client whose suspicion has been aroused turn up a device.

Devices are cheap, tiny, and planted in seconds. They hide in chargers, smoke alarms, pens and picture frames. Most people never find them alone.

Most of the time we find nothing, and that is still an answer. When we do find something, you see it, understand how it got there, and know exactly what to do next.

  • Radio frequency scanning for live transmitters
  • Thermal imaging for powered devices behind surfaces
  • Non-linear junction detection for electronics that are switched off
  • Fingertip physical search of every fitting and fixture

Wherever you feel exposed, we sweep it.

Homes, vehicles, offices and phones. Every sweep is carried out by our own technicians with the high-spec equipment needed to detect today's sophisticated bugs, cameras and trackers. No subcontractors, no middlemen.

Corporate and government TSCM

Boardrooms, executive offices, legal chambers and council chambers. We offer a rapid response, generally on site within 1 to 24 hours, and a full sweep takes between two and six hours depending on the size of the space. Unmarked vehicles and after-hours attendance keep the sweep confidential.

Bug sweeps for your home

Relationship breakdowns, family disputes and domestic situations. Devices reach a home as a disguised object, with a visitor, or through a bumped lock. We search bedrooms, living areas, power points, fixed-line phones and wiring, then talk you through exactly what we found and what to do next.

Vehicle tracker and bug sweeps

A GPS tracker can be fitted to a car in a few seconds with a magnet, or hard-wired to the vehicle's own power. We locate magnetic units, OBD-port trackers and in-cabin microphones, and we have the equipment to force a GSM device to transmit so it can be detected.

Mobile phone forensics

Running hot, battery draining, apps you never installed, or someone who knows things they could not know. We use and are certified in law-enforcement-grade Cellebrite equipment to examine iPhones and Android devices for spyware, call recording, microphone activation and message exfiltration.

Preventative security assessments

Prevention is better than cure. We visit your premises, identify the threats, and report on practical measures: access control, covert and overt CCTV, communication encryption, secure phones, anti-tracking hardware, audio masking and threat-awareness training for your people.

What a sweep involves

Four layers of detection. Nothing is assumed clean.

Photographed on Security Tactics jobs

  1. 01

    Radio frequency scan

A spectrum sweep of the whole space for anything transmitting: GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the burst transmitters that only wake for a second at a time.

  2. 02

    Thermal imaging

Powered electronics leave heat. Thermal cameras show us what is warm behind plasterboard, inside ceiling voids and within fittings that should be cold.

  3. 03

    Non-linear junction detection

Switched off, battery flat or dormant, a semiconductor still answers an NLJD. This is how we find the devices that are waiting rather than talking.

  4. 04

    Physical search

Cable trays, ceiling tiles, power points, furniture, vehicles. Our technicians open, inspect and check by hand, because some devices give nothing away to an instrument.

  5. 05

    Report and next steps

You receive a clear account of what we did and what we found. On request, a detailed written report, and where possible a device can be traced back to the person or company behind it.

Bug sweep pricing guide

What a sweep costs.

We do not quote a fixed price before we understand the space. The cost follows the hours, and the hours follow the size of what has to be searched.

  • About 2 hoursSmall home or office
  • 4 hours or moreMedium premises
  • 8 to 12 hoursLarge multi-floor office

There is no difference in cost for an out-of-hours sweep. Be wary of a cheap operator with only a handheld detector: a proper sweep uses radio frequency, thermal and non-linear junction detection together, plus a physical search.

Questions we are asked most

How quickly can you attend?

We can attend all capital cities in Australia within 24 hours and regional centres within 48 hours. For corporate clients, we are generally on site in 1 to 24 hours.

Can you find a device that is switched off?

Yes. Non-linear junction detection responds to the electronics themselves, so a dormant or flat device still shows. Thermal imaging and a physical search cover the rest.

Can my home phone be bugged?

Fixed-line and home phones can be bugged, and we have the equipment to detect it. Wall plugs, sockets and wiring are checked as part of a residential sweep.

What happens if you find something?

You are told on the spot and shown the device. We provide a detailed report on request, and some devices can be traced back to the person or company behind them.

How do devices get into a house?

Lock bumping, a disguised object brought in as a gift, a partner or family member, or a hired professional. They are most often hidden in plugs, sockets and wiring.
